Unit Secretary

East Houston Medical Center – Baytown, Texas

East Houston Medical Center’s Baytown facility is seeking Unit Secretaries who can bring organization, courtesy, and dependable communication to busy clinical areas. This position supports the flow of information between patients, families, nurses, providers, and departments.

About the Role

The Unit Secretary helps keep the unit running smoothly by managing phones, clerical tasks, patient movement coordination, documentation support, supply communication, and general department organization. The ideal candidate is polished, calm under pressure, and comfortable helping multiple people at once.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer phones, route calls, relay messages, and support timely communication between departments.
  • Assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, patient movement, and unit coordination.
  • Maintain logs, forms, charts, unit documentation, and clerical tracking tools as assigned.
  • Support provider communication, consult coordination, order routing, and department requests.
  • Greet patients, families, visitors, vendors, and staff with professionalism and discretion.
  • Assist with supply requests, equipment needs, work orders, and unit organization.
  • Enter data accurately into facility systems and help maintain complete administrative records.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA, visitor, access, and communication policies.

Scheduling and Availability

Full-time and part-time schedules may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays depending on assigned unit needs.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior hospital, clinic, front desk, call center, or unit secretary experience preferred.
  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • Strong computer, phone, multitasking, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain courteous and composed in a clinical environment.
