About the Role:

The Materials Handler plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient flow of materials within a warehouse or production environment. This position is responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing materials and products in a timely and organized manner to support operational needs. The Materials Handler collaborates closely with inventory control, shipping, and receiving teams to maintain accurate stock levels and ensure materials are handled safely and securely. This role requires attention to detail to verify shipments and documentation, as well as physical stamina to manage the movement of goods. Ultimately, the Materials Handler contributes to the overall productivity and success of the supply chain by maintaining smooth material handling processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or materials handling environment.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely (certification preferred).
  • Basic math and reading skills to verify shipment documentation and inventory records.
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Forklift operator certification.
  • Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) or inventory software.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and best practices in material handling.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or distribution center.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive and unload incoming shipments, verifying contents against purchase orders and packing lists.
  • Store materials in designated locations, ensuring proper labeling and organization for easy retrieval.
  • Pick and prepare materials for shipment or production according to work orders and schedules.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records by updating databases and reporting discrepancies or damages.
  • Assist with regular inventory counts and audits to ensure stock accuracy.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to optimize workflow and resolve material handling issues.

Skills:

The Materials Handler uses their skills daily to ensure materials are accurately received, stored, and distributed, which requires strong attention to detail and organizational abilities. Proficiency in operating forklifts and other equipment is essential for safely moving heavy or bulky items throughout the facility.
