Role Overview

The primary function of the Analytical Chemistry Technician is to prepare samples and perform chemical analysis on a range of materials in the development of new admixture products and the support of customers, Manufacturing, and Quality.  The technician will be exposed to a variety of industry test methods and lab equipment, particularly those related to spectroscopy and chromatography.  The technician will also be mentored in experimental design and data interpretation as a means to solve problems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical testing using a variety of techniques such as wet chemistry, HPLC, GPC, Mass Spectrometry, FTIR, UV/Vis.
  • Conduct chemical analysis in support of concrete admixture characterization and product development.
  • Follow established analytical methods for chemical analysis (raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products).
  • Develop familiarity with testing methods and equipment to support a variety of analysis and proper equipment maintenance
  • Prepare accurate data summary reports for both internal and external customers
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace
  • Follow all appropriate Environmental Protection, Safety, Health (EHS) policies.


Knowledge and Experience

Education

  • Must reside within commuting distance of Beachwood, OH and be able to commute to the office daily
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry (or closely related field) OR recent graduate (within the past 1–2 years)
  • Experience in a laboratory setting is not necessary, but helpful.


Knowledge/Skills

  • Basic chemistry-laboratory skills
  • Background in Analytical Chemistry preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication are required


Work Environment

This job operates in a laboratory environment.  Based on the job description, the role will use standard office equipment and equipment as specified in the laboratory to perform analyses of raw materials and products for the company.  All employees will be expected to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.  For this role, work hours will fall within the standard office operations hours, which are Monday to Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work at a lab bench, stand, sit, and walk.
