As a Senior Software Engineer working on our Java desktop application, you will implement, design, and thoroughly document challenging projects to manipulate, display, find, transfer, and label medical images. The MIM platform provides tools to automate medical processes, transfer and store medical data, analyze medical images, and so much more – all to solve problems faced by today’s medical professionals.

Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer working on our Java desktop application, you will implement, design, and thoroughly document challenging projects to manipulate, display, find, transfer, and label medical images. The MIM platform provides tools to automate medical processes, transfer and store medical data, analyze medical images, and so much more – all to solve problems faced by today’s medical professionals. 

Responsibilities 

  • Lead projects through the technical design and implementation phases, including delegation of work when appropriate. 

  • Solve real world problems with platform changes, extension creation, and in-software automation steps, as appropriate. 

  • Serve as the point person for one or more specific modules, components, or sets of features in a large and mature code base. 

  • Thoroughly document technical decisions to satisfy the GE HealthCare Quality Management System and business processes. 

  • Mitigate and document cybersecurity and other technical risks. 

  • Review difficult, complicated, and critical code. 

  • Investigate a variety of critical and complex issues/tickets in an organized, timely fashion, even if the tickets reach a high volume. 

  • Create comprehensive testing plans and automated tests. 

  • Assess and drive forward application performance. 

  • Work cross functionally with key stakeholders to understand requirements and use cases, and suggest projects to meet customer needs. 

  • Identify gaps or needs in the department and initiate improvements, driving increased efficiency. 

  • Communicate with the team regularly to coordinate on projects, overcome roadblocks, and celebrate successes. 

  • Mentor junior engineers. 

  • Contribute meaningfully to GE Healthcare's overall mission of improving patient care. 

Qualifications 

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering, or in a related scientific field with notable computer science coursework. 

  • In lieu of computer science coursework, at least six years of experience in programming and leading software projects. 

  • With a degree, at least four years industry experience in programming, preferably in Java, with experience in both UI and backend work. 

  • Experience in organizing and running medium size projects and making technical decisions. 

  • Experience in reviewing and refactoring code in a large code base. 

  • Knowledge of object-oriented principles and the data structures that support them. 

  • General problem-solving skills. 

  • Strong analytical thinking. 

  • Documentation and organizational skills. 

  • An appetite for continued learning of both technical and interpersonal skills. 

  • A preexisting understanding of medical imaging is not required.
