Basic Job Functions:
Nucor Steel West Virginia is Nucor's new sheet mill with advanced steelmaking capabilities and lower carbon emissions. This is a greenfield project, which is estimated to be fully operational after two-years of construction. The new steel mill will employ 800 full-time teammates producing up to 3 million tons per year at one of the most technologically advanced sheet mills. This advanced manufacturing facility is to be located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.
The Environmental Supervisor is responsible for hiring and developing a team of environmental engineers and technicians, implementing operational and commercial excellence while ensuring environmental compliance. The position will direct and support all aspects of safety, environmental compliance, costs, productivity, and profitability. Other job duties include: establishing a Nucor culture that promotes safety, ownership, and continuous improvement; maintaining process reliability, engaging the production, maintenance, and administrative teams to ensure a mutual understanding of environmental compliance requirements; developing team members through training and individual coaching; complying with State and Federal environmental regulations via daily mechanical and electrical maintenance of baghouses, water treatment systems, radiation detection, and associated equipment, in addition to environmental department activities and other duties as assigned.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Five years of Environmental or Maintenance experience in a leadership or technical role.
- Extensive air permitting or air compliance experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in related industry: Water systems operations, water chemistry analysis, baghouse/emissions control operations, CEMS, pollution control equipment, mechanical maintenance (emphasis on pumps and valves), and electrical troubleshooting.
- Training in ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, HAZWOPER, RCRA, DOT, Method 9, or other aspects of environmental compliance.
- Experience interfacing with local regulatory agencies, community, state, and federal leaders.
