Under general supervision, the Utility Worker performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the routine and emergency maintenance, repair, operation, installation, and inspection, of the City's water distribution system and wastewater conveyance system.

Pay range $22.68 - $30.24 DOQ

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in the gas, water, wastewater, or electric, or other underground utility construction, maintenance, or repair industry. Operation of a variety of vehicles and equipment required.
  • Possess or obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker and air brake endorsement within 12 months of employment
  • Possess or obtain a valid MUTCD flagger certification within 12 months of employment
  • Possess or obtain a Competent Person Certification for trenching and shoring safety within 12 months of employment.
  • Possess or obtain a Confined Space Entry certification within 12 months of employment.
  • Possess or obtain a rigging certification to support crane operations within 12 months of employment.
  • Possess or obtain an OSHA 10 certification within 12 months of employment.
  • Possess or obtain a skid steer certification within 12 months of employment.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of work zone safety procedures. Flagger certification, confined space entry certification and trenching and shoring training required to perform some tasks.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize computer tablets, laptops, pads, and other electronic devices to follow and document work activities
  • Knowledge of proper methods to load and trailer equipment
  • Knowledge of City, Department and Division policies and procedures.
  • Effective oral communication skills and ability to demonstrate customer service skills.
