Partners collaboratively with physicians, interdisciplinary leaders, patients, and families to advance a culture of safety, quality, equity, and human experience while supporting the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the University of Maryland Medical System.

The Nurse Director of Inpatient Nursing provides clinical leadership for a diverse portfolio of Inpatient Services, including Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, Observation, Oncology, Cardiology, and Orthopaedics. 



Work Experience

Education & Training:

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

Licensed in State of Maryland.

Bachelors required. 

BSN and Masters in Nursing Healthcare Business or Informatics strongly preferred. 

National certification preferred. 

 

Work Orientation & Experience: 

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as an RN. 

Three years of managerial experience. 

Demonstrates progressive management experience. 

Familiar with regulatory and accrediting agency standards. 

Prior experience to include: budgetary analysis, customer service and performance improvement. 

Preferred experience:

healthcare information systems, statistical/data analysis and project planning management.

-Demonstrates advanced knowledge of nursing leadership, healthcare operations, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, quality improvement methodologies, and professional nursing practice.

-Demonstrates knowledge of healthcare finance, budgeting, workforce planning, productivity management, resource utilization, and strategic planning to achieve operational and financial objectives.

-Applies principles of evidence-based practice, nursing research, innovation, patient safety, quality improvement, and High Reliability Organizations to improve clinical and operational outcomes.

-Builds collaborative relationships and communicates effectively with executive leaders, physicians, advanced practice providers, interdisciplinary teams, patients, families, and external stakeholders.

-Leads organizational change by utilizing data, performance metrics, benchmarking, and continuous improvement methodologies to drive measurable outcomes.

-Coaches, mentors, and develops leaders while fostering professional accountability, professional governance, workforce engagement, succession planning, and a culture of continuous learning.

-Demonstrates sound judgment, critical thinking, systems thinking, and the ability to manage multiple complex priorities in a dynamic healthcare environment.

-Promotes an inclusive work environment that values diversity, equity, belonging, professional respect, and culturally responsive care.

-Demonstrates exceptional verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build consensus across all levels of the organization.

-Demonstrates proficiency with electronic health records, business applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analytics tools used to support operational decision-making and performance improvement.

-Possesses the knowledge and clinical judgment necessary to ensure care is delivered in accordance with professional standards and is appropriate to the age, developmental stage, cultural needs, and clinical requirements of the patient populations served.
