Job Description Summary:

This is a full-time position in the Office of the State’s Attorney, Special Victims Unit. This is a full time, permanent position that is responsible for the preparation of a variety of felony criminal child abuse cases in Harford County. This position will be under the supervision of the SVU Division Chief and will serve at the pleasure of the State’s Attorney.

Salary: Starting at $55,000 - $87,000 Annually

Hours of Work: M-F; 8:00AM – 4:00PM or 9:00AM – 5:00PM

Target Hire Date: 04/06/2026

Nature of Work:

This is a full-time position in the Office of the State’s Attorney, Special Victims Unit. This is a full time, permanent position that is responsible for the preparation of a variety of variety of felony criminal child abuse/special victim cases in Harford County. This position will be under the supervision of the SVU Division Chief and will serve at the pleasure of the State’s Attorney.

Examples of Duties:

The incumbent will collaborate with Assistant State’s Attorney’s, law enforcement, and the public to support the preparation of felony criminal child abuse cases in Harford County. These duties include but are not limited to, fielding phone calls from law enforcement officers, witnesses, and victims, filing pleadings in MDEC, maintaining case files in the SAO internal case management system, preparing cases for trial, completing discovery, and assisting attorneys in a variety of ways.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Certificate in paralegal studies is required. At least 2+ years of paralegal experience and additional education preferred but not required. Child Advocacy Center and/or trauma experience preferred but not required. Must be able to pass a criminal background check. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, a multiline phone system and MDEC. Able to function and multitask in a highly stressful environment and maintain a positive and professional demeanor when interacting with the public, members of law enforcement and court personnel.
