HGV Technician

? Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance & Repairs

• Diagnose faults on construction and plant equipment
  
• Carry out mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs
  
• Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance
  
• Ensure machines meet safety and performance standards
  

? Equipment may include brands like Komatsu, Atlas Copco, JLG, etc.

2. Field Service Work

• Travel to customer sites to repair breakdowns
  
• Respond quickly to urgent faults (downtime = cost for clients)
  
• Provide on-site technical support
  

3. Diagnostics & Technical Work

• Read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics
  
• Use diagnostic tools/software
  
• Identify root causes of equipment failures
  

4. Customer Support

• Communicate with customers about faults and repairs
  
• Advise on equipment use and maintenance
  
• Maintain professional service standards
  

5. Documentation & Reporting

• Complete service reports and job sheets
  
• Support warranty claims with evidence (photos, parts, reports)
  
• Record parts used and work completed
  

6. Team & Department Coordination

• Work with:
  • Parts department (ordering components)
    
  • Service managers and workshop schedulers
    
• Ensure jobs are completed efficiently and on time
  

? Skills & Requirements

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of:
  • Heavy plant machinery
    
  • Hydraulics & electrics
    
  • Diesel engines
    
• Ability to troubleshoot faults independently
  

Experience

• Experience in one of the following is usually preferred:
  • Construction equipment
    
  • Agricultural machinery
    
  • Commercial vehicles or forklifts
    

Soft Skills

• Problem-solving ability
  
• Good communication with customers
  
• Ability to work independently (especially field roles)
  
• Time management and organisation
