About the Role
The Pro Shop Manager is responsible for the overall operation and performance of an assigned Shanty Creek golf shop and the daily golf experience. This is a business leadership role with direct responsibility for staffing, retail operations, scheduling, tee sheet management, and guest service.
While this position reports to the Assistant Director of Golf for alignment and support, the Pro Shop Manager is empowered to independently manage the day-to-day operation of the Pro Shop. The Pro Shop Manager is accountable for operational results and is expected to take ownership of their team, business performance, and overall guest experience.
This position leads a team that may include an Assistant Manager, Players Assistants, Cashiers, and Lot Attendants and is responsible for developing and empowering team members to operate effectively and provide exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Operational Management
Manage all aspects of Pro Shop operations, including retail performance, inventory control, merchandising, staffing, and financial results.
Manage tee sheet strategy, pacing, and daily golf flow to maximize utilization and revenue.
Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service, and profitability.
Develop and implement strategies that support revenue growth and overall golf operations.
Coordinate with other Shanty Creek golf operations to support consistency and an exceptional resort-wide golf experience.
Leadership & Team Development
Train, schedule, coach, and lead Pro Shop staff.
Directly manage the Assistant Manager, when applicable, while delegating responsibilities and empowering appropriate decision-making.
Oversee Players Assistants, Cashiers, Lot Attendants, and other assigned golf operations employees to ensure consistent service and operational standards.
Establish clear expectations and maintain accountability for individual and team performance.
Foster a positive work environment focused on teamwork, ownership, communication, and guest service.
Retail & Merchandising
Manage inventory, purchasing, product selection, and stock levels.
Develop and execute merchandising strategies that enhance the guest experience and drive retail sales.
Monitor sales trends and retail performance and adjust strategies as appropriate.
Maintain an organized, professional, and visually appealing Pro Shop environment.
Golf Operations & Guest Experience
Ensure a high level of professionalism and guest service throughout the golf operation.
Oversee daily opening and closing procedures and ensure operational standards are consistently followed.
Address and resolve guest concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Coordinate with golf operations staff to maintain effective course flow and provide a positive overall golf experience.
Support consistent service standards across Shanty Creek golf operations.
Programming & Events
Coordinate and execute golf outings, leagues, tournaments, and special events.
Partner with golf leadership on promotions, programs, and initiatives designed to increase participation and revenue.
Ensure appropriate staffing, communication, and operational preparation for golf events.
Minimum Qualifications
Previous experience managing a golf shop, retail operation, hospitality operation, or similar business unit.
Demonstrated leadership experience, including responsibility for supervising and developing employees.
Strong understanding of tee sheet management and daily golf operations.
Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
Ability to effectively manage multiple operational priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
PGA Professional certification or professional experience within the golf industry.
Experience with retail merchandising, purchasing, and inventory management systems.
Experience coordinating or managing golf tournaments, leagues, outings, or special events.
