Meta is seeking an engineer with a Hardware and Data Center background to shape the future of Meta’s Edge Network. Meta's Edge network is the ingress point for all of customer internet traffic and the performance, stability and efficiency of the hardware and software we are running is critical to keeping Meta’s family of apps working. This role involves working with other engineers in the space and our external partners to select new hardware, test and validate it for production usage in our edge network. You will work with our internal teams and external partners for new hardware selection and validation. You will be involved in every step of the process, from the "on paper" evaluation of new hardware through the incorporation of it in our Edge network fleet. This will include benchmark testing and production validation testing, partnering with other internal teams in this process. Your goal should be the assurance that we are incorporating the highest quality hardware as it relates to the performance of our mission-critical software, while also assuring that the efficiency and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) is progressively improving. You will also be responsible for the design of the rack-level assembly, including rack switches, power management devices, cooling, cabling, safety, and sensors. You should stay on top of industry trends in the hardware space and should engage with external vendors as it relates to the advancement of our Edge fleet. This position involves managing multiple concurrent hardware evaluation and validation efforts wherein you will work directly with a small team of experienced engineers. You'll own the strategy and execution for this space and its overall success as we move forward and explore new opportunities to expand our Edge footprint while driving down costs. You will be responsible for ensuring that the new hardware designs meet the needs of the software development teams within our Edge infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal partners and external suppliers to deliver new high-quality server and rack designs that align well with our business needs
  • Negotiate trade-offs and conflicting requirements with different parts of the business
  • Drive the evaluation of new server hardware from initial qualification, from development testing and benchmarking, all the way to production validation
  • Evaluate the design and features of our rack designs and drive innovation as it relates to efficiency, cooling, power, and electrical safety
  • Be aware of industry trends and recommend new hardware for testing and evaluation
  • Help design and drive our hardware roadmap
  • Lead a small team of engineers

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in hands-on software, firmware, or hardware engineering
  • 8+ years of experience across the full hardware development lifecycle - from sample evaluation up through mass production
  • 8+ years of experience working with server hardware components (CPU, disk, NIC, RAM, GPUs)
  • 8+ years of experience in managing vendor relationships and roadmaps

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Experience on rack-level design with an emphasis on improving thermals
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
