Description

The Loan Officer is responsible for originating mortgage loan, HELOC and consumer applications.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Originates loans by talking with customers and by contacting realtors, builders, etc.; engages in sales efforts at the customer’s home or place of business and away from the bank’s place of business or any office maintained for loan production business purposes.
  2. Responds to customer/contact inquiries regarding the association’s loan products and customer’s applications.
  3. Keeps up-to-date on government regulations and the association’s policies and procedures regarding lending; participates in compliance training and banking regulations for industry. 
  4. Knows, understands and complies with current fair lending laws and bank policies and procedures; addresses same at all times. 
  5. Makes an underwriting decision on each loan within their lending authority; for those above that level or for exceptions to lending policies the file referred to the VP Lending Operations Officer and/or President CEO to make the decision as outlined in policy and procedure. 
  6. Manages service providers and vendors effectively; structures relationships with service providers in a strategic manner, sets expectations; develops performance metrics; measures vendor performance, provides feedback and hold accountable.
  7. Other duties as required.

Technical Expertise

  1. Experience in mortgage lending is required.
  2. Experience with lending laws, regulations, and guidelines are required.
  3. Experience in customer service is required.
  4. Experience in financial services or banking is preferred.
  5. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required. Encompass, Cleartouch, OnBase, various government and investor software/web portals is preferred. CRM software is preferred.

Education and Experience

  1. Education: High School Diploma is required Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Communications is preferred 
  2. Certification: NMLS is required.
  3. Years of experience: 3 to 5 years as a Loan Officer [Originator] is required.

Physical Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift, walk, stand, sit, bend, reach with hands and arms, climb, push/pull, use hands, and see, hear and speak.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • This position is performed in a hybrid office setting, five days a week, with a 1-day-a-week remote work option, with typical work hours being 8:00 am through 4:30pm.
