Description

We are Bend Transitional Care, a 60-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in Bend, Oregon that provides transitional, post-hospital care for people who need extra medical support before returning home or moving to longer-term care. We’re looking for a Full Time Culinary Aide to join our team.

Responsibilities: 

Assists with the preparation and service of food using proper food handling and food safety techniques for residents, as well as employees and special events. The Culinary Aide helps ensure that the food tastes good and is served at the proper temperature and in an attractive manner in accordance with established standards. Maintains a clean and safe working environment in accordance with established standards.


Essential Functions

 Prepares, portions, and serves food and beverages for residents, employees, and special events according to menus, diet orders, recipes, and food safety standards. 

  • Ensures food quality, proper portioning, attractive presentation, and timely meal delivery. 
  • Maintains proper food storage, labeling, dating, and temperature logs for food and equipment. 
  • Washes dishes and kitchen equipment using approved sanitation and infection control procedures. 
  • Maintains a clean, safe, organized kitchen and operates equipment properly, reporting issues as needed. 
  • Assists with receiving, storing, and monitoring inventory and supplies to prevent shortages and waste. 
  • Follows all safety, sanitation, and infection control policies and procedures. 
  • Completes assigned tasks within scheduled timeframes and supports continuous improvement of food service operations. 
  • Works cooperatively with staff, residents, families, and visitors in a professional and positive manner. 
  • Maintains punctuality and regular attendance for assigned shifts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Attends in-service education and applies instruction to job.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of safe food preparation and handling techniques.
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for the job.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members.
  • Ability to be patient and polite.
  • Ability to be accurate, concise and detail oriented.
  • Ability to read, speak, understand and communicate effectively in English through verbal and written means.


Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 

Licenses/Certification

  • Food Handlers Permit
  • NOTE: Federal Child Labor Laws do not permit employees younger than 18 years of age to work with or repair, adjust, or clean power-driven machines such as meat slicers and commercial mixers. Therefore, individuals must be at least 18 years of age to be employed in this position.

Experience

  • Six months experience in a long-term care environment preferred.
  • Experience in food service is desired.
