The SCHS ob/gyn hospitalist (nocturnist) provides patient care for the Center for Women’s Health as well as hospital coverage for unassigned patients and community providers who present to the emergency department in Bend or are transferred to the Bend hospital from other hospitals. The OB/GYN hospitalist (nocturnist) physician is a member of the St Charles Center for Women’s Health team, with the primary responsibility of providing hospital based care for this clinic’s obstetric and gynecologic patients. This physician functions primarily as a nocturnist, providing care during the overnight shift to our established patients who present to the Bend Family Birthing Center or Emergency Department, whether directly or via transport from other facilities. In addition, this physician also provides backup support for St Charles Center for Women’s Health certified nurse midwives and other community providers, surgical assistance for cesarean deliveries upon request from community physicians, and care for obstetric and gynecologic unassigned patients that present to a St Charles facility in an admitting or consultative role in accordance with SCHS medical staff bylaws. Call expectation: Back-up call during high census times may be requested. Work location: The Physician will be in Bend Hospital for coverage needs. Essential functions include providing 12-hour coverage of all OB/GYN patients on the Bend campus, serving as a consultant for inpatient psychiatric patients and medically complex patients in rehabilitation, addressing in basket encounters and after hours call service, maintaining familiarity with SCMG organization and billing processes, obtaining continuing medical education, abiding by medical staff bylaws, and participating in rapid response supervision. Administrative duties include documenting patient care in EMR, participating in SCMG meetings, maintaining licenses and certifications, and holding active privileges at St. Charles Health System hospitals. Behavioral expectations emphasize creating a healing environment, providing safe and professional care, educating patients and families, and complying with laws and policies. Education required includes graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of an accredited OB/GYN residency. Licensure requires an Oregon MD/DO license, board certification or eligibility in OB/GYN, valid driver’s license, unrestricted DEA number, Medicare/Medicaid participation, and current BLS certification. Experience requires advanced communication skills and teamwork ability; Epic EMR experience is preferred. Physical requirements and PPE use are specified. The position is full-time with a 40-hour weekly schedule.
