BASIC FUNCTIONS:

Learn various aspects of the procurement function by working on the Strategic Sourcing team alongside Commodity Managers, Quality Engineers, and Materials Management team.  Provide day-to-day support of existing team members as well as take ownership of specific projects designed to achieve supplier cost, quality, and delivery improvements.  Collaborate with other functions of the organization including Engineering, Operations, Finance, and Sales to achieve objectives.

Candidate will learn about the sourcing process at Gast and will be working face to face with our suppliers on pricing models, negotiations and providing sourcing recommendations.  Taking a pro-active, skilled approach to project management is essential.  A desire to work in manufacturing is a plus.

           

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Take lead role managing 1-3 projects that are designed to drive material productivity, improve supplier delivery performance, and reduce quality non-conformances.  Potential projects may include:
    • Projects will be focused on a commodity. Goal to save $50K.
    • Collaborate internally and externally to manage projects
    • Supplier market test and negotiation
    • Cost driver benchmarking study
  • Provide day-to-day support for the Strategic Sourcing / Materials team:
    • Work with commodity manager to manage the  RFQ process
    • Work with suppliers to close out quality non-conformances
    • Perform market analysis to support strategic negotiations with key suppliers
    • Shadow team members during local supplier visits
    • Review, update and implement WIP Kanban process by working closely with the materials team to drive efficient material flow through the plant
    • Support Materials and Logistics team for various projects

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong drive for results; manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously; excellent verbal and written communication skills; fast learner to new concepts, natural curiosity and willingness to ask questions; proficient in basic Microsoft Office applications, mainly excel formulas and functions; able to travel domestically for 1-2 days at a time.  Able to collaborate and coordinate meetings with various groups or people.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS OR EQUIVALENCIES:

  • Sophomore year or higher, majoring or minoring in Supply Chain Management.
