Job Description: Millwright Installation Superintendent

Position Summary

The Millwright Installation Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing the installation, alignment, maintenance, and commissioning of industrial machinery and equipment on job sites. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable standards and specifications. Superintendent provides leadership to millwright crews, coordinates with project stakeholders, and drives quality and productivity in all installation activities. This is working superintendent role, HAND ON!!! Willing to consider someone with foreman experience. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate millwright crews involved in installing, maintaining, and relocating industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Plan and execute installation sequences, including rigging, alignment, precision measurement, and mechanical assembly.
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate installation.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure project goals are met.
  • Schedule labor, equipment, and materials to meet project timelines and deliverables.
  • Oversee rigging operations, including lifts, hoisting, and crane coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards (OSHA, etc.).
  • Conduct job site safety meetings, inspections, and enforce safe work practices.
  • Identify and resolve installation issues, mechanical problems, and project challenges in real time.
  • Monitor project progress and provide status reports to management.
  • Ensure quality control standards are maintained throughout the installation process.
  • Manage subcontractors and vendors as needed.
  • Participate in commissioning and startup of installed equipment.

 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
  • 8–10+ years of millwright experience, including leadership or supervisory roles.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems, industrial equipment installation, and precision alignment.
  • Strong understanding of rigging practices, cranes, and lifting procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding and industrial environments.
  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours as required by project demands.
  • Extensive knowledge of structural steel erection, connecting, rigging, welding, reinforcing steel, and miscellaneous metals installation is a HUGE plus

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman Millwright certification.
  • OSHA 30 (or higher) certification.
  • Experience in industries such as manufacturing, energy, construction, or heavy industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with laser alignment tools, vibration analysis, and precision measurement instruments.
  • Experience with large-scale installations and shutdown projects.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs or more).
  • Ability to stand, climb, bend, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Work in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, noise, etc.).

 

Work Environment

  • Industrial construction sites, manufacturing plants, and heavy equipment environments.
  • Exposure to machinery, tools, and potentially hazardous conditions require strict adherence to safety procedures.
