 In the Nurse Extern role, you will work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a collaborative and supportive healthcare environment. This position offers the opportunity to develop clinical skills, strengthen critical thinking abilities, and build confidence in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. Successful candidates will demonstrate critical thinking skills, decisive judgment while maintaining a strong commitment to quality and safety. Nurse Externs must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment and take appropriate action when needed. To provide a well-rounded learning experience, Nurse Externs will rotate throughout the entire facility, working alongside interdisciplinary teams and contributing to the exceptional care and service provided to our patients and communities.

 

How you'll contribute

A Nurse Extern who excels in this role:

  • Works collaboratively with the patient care team.

  • Performs direct patient care under the direction, delegation and supervision of a registered nurse.

  • Documents patient care given.

  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to supervising RN.

  • Maintains positive professional relationship with patient/ families, coworkers, and health care team.

  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.

  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.

  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.

  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

  • Supports performance improvement philosophy.

What we're looking for

Applicants should be enrolled in an accredited nursing school. Additional requirements include:

  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) required. 
  • Needs to have a year or less of school left 
  • Have completed all hands on check offs
