Position Summary...

Join Walmart’s Global Tax Controversy organization and play a key role in supporting the execution of complex U.S. federal tax controversy matters while partnering with senior leadership on global controversy initiatives. As Manager II – Global Tax Controversy, you’ll gain broad exposure to federal income tax audits, appeals, litigation matters, tax accounting, and the financial reporting implications of tax controversy across a Fortune 1 multinational company. You’ll develop technical analyses, coordinate audit activities, support tax positions, and help identify opportunities to strengthen processes and reduce enterprise tax risk. This is an opportunity to work across tax, legal, finance, and accounting functions while contributing to Walmart’s global tax controversy strategy.


About the Team:

Walmart’s Global Tax Controversy team manages complex tax controversy matters and helps the company navigate tax audits, appeals, litigation, and related risks across jurisdictions. The team works closely with U.S. Federal Tax, International Tax, Tax Accounting, Global Legal, Controllership, Finance, and external advisors to drive timely and effective resolution of tax matters. In this role, you’ll partner with the Senior Director and colleagues across the organization to support U.S. federal controversy matters while contributing to broader global controversy initiatives. Your work will help strengthen controversy governance, improve operational effectiveness, and manage tax risk across the enterprise.

What you'll do...

  • Support the execution of U.S. federal income tax audits, appeals, litigation, and other controversy matters through effective planning, issue development, and coordination with tax authorities.
  • Prepare technical analyses, audit responses, tax positions, and supporting documentation for complex federal tax issues.
  • Partner with Tax Accounting to support ASC 740 reporting, uncertain tax positions, audit developments, reserve documentation, and other financial reporting considerations related to tax controversy matters.
  • Coordinate with International Tax teams to support global controversy initiatives, strengthen controversy governance, and promote consistent execution across jurisdictions.
  • Monitor audit developments and emerging controversy risks, evaluate their potential impact, and communicate findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Support controversy reporting, forecasting, governance, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness and enterprise tax risk management.
  • Collaborate with U.S. Federal Tax, International Tax, Tax Accounting, Global Legal, Controllership, Finance, internal business partners, and external advisors to resolve controversy matters efficiently and provide support on complex tax issues.
What you’ll bring
  • Experience supporting U.S. federal income tax audits, appeals, litigation, or other tax controversy matters.
  • Knowledge of ASC 740, uncertain tax positions, reserve documentation, and the relationship between tax controversy and financial reporting.
  • Experience researching and analyzing complex technical tax issues and developing well-supported tax positions, audit responses, and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex priorities and coordinate audit and controversy activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex tax matters for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Experience collaborating across tax, accounting, legal, finance, and other business functions, as well as with external advisors.
  • A continuous-improvement mindset with the ability to identify opportunities to enhance processes, leverage technology, strengthen governance, and reduce enterprise tax risk.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field and 2 years’ experience in accounting, finance, income tax compliance, tax controversy or related area OR 4 years’ experience in accounting, finance, income tax compliance, tax controversy or related area.   • Juris Doctorate (J.D.)
  • Master of Laws (LL.M.)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

The annual salary range for this position is $80,000.00 - $155,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
