Role summary:The Senior Software Engineer will lead the delivery of scoped features and models by collaborating with engineering teams to develop, test, and maintain high-quality software solutions. This role requires expertise in multiple programming languages and a strong focus on continuous integration, automated testing, and system observability. The engineer will contribute to solution design, technical leadership, and AI/ML integration while ensuring alignment with platform and business objectives. Effective collaboration with stakeholders and commitment to engineering excellence are essential to drive innovation and deliver reliable, scalable software systems.
About the team:
The In-Club Systems & Infrastructure team at Sam’s Club Tech develops technology that powers the in-club experience across 600+ locations. This team owns the digital ordering and fulfillment systems serving millions of members, along with associate applications that enhance operational efficiency. Positioned at the intersection of physical retail and software engineering, the team delivers solutions with immediate, tangible impact. What you'll do:
- Own scoped feature delivery through collaborative engineering, managing implementation, iteration, testing, and support
- Write clean, efficient code using Java, Next.js, TypeScript, React Native, and Kafka across the full software development lifecycle
- Integrate AI and ML components and leverage generative AI tools to improve development velocity
- Participate in solution design, evaluating trade-offs to ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable systems
- Conduct code reviews, debugging, and defect management to maintain high-quality standards
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements and success metrics
- Monitor application performance and support continuous integration and delivery practices
- Mentor peers and contribute to engineering best practices and innovation strategies
What you'll bring:
- 4+ years of production software engineering experience in full-stack development
- Strong proficiency in Java, TypeScript, Next.js, and React Native
- Hands-on experience with Kafka and event-driven architecture
- Experience with Cosmos DB or Azure SQL in production environments
- Solid understanding of Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native deployment practices
- Familiarity with authentication and security patterns — OAuth2, secrets management, and compliance-driven development
- Strong testing discipline across unit, integration, and regression coverage
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills across engineering and product teams
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools (Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent)
- Passion for engineering excellence, mentorship, and continuous improvement

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location).
