Position Summary...
We are seeking a Distinguished Software Engineer to define enterprise-wide strategy, architecture, and standards for identity, authentication, and authorization across Walmart’s platforms. This role owns the non-human identity (NHI), with focus on AI identity control plane, AI identity governance, continuous authentication, risk-based access control, and adaptive authorization on a global scale.This role will influence identity paradigms across human, machine, and autonomous agent domains, partnering with Technical Fellows, across Information Security, legal, and technology platform teams to ensure Walmart’s AI identity fabric is scalable, resilient, auditable, and compliant.
What you'll do...
- Define and own Walmart’s enterprise AI identity architecture and standards.Â
- Establish identity paradigms for human, machine, and autonomous agent convergence.Â
- Set enterprise standards for NHI governance, delegated authority, and agent authentication.Â
- Architect continuous authentication and risk-based access control for autonomous AI systems.Â
- Building prototypes and demo the technologyÂ
- Define and enforce adaptive authorization using runtime context and risk signals.Â
- Lead modernization from static secrets to short-lived, attested identities.Â
- Design identity control plane vs. enforcement plane patterns for distributed AI platforms.Â
- Establish observability, auditability, and accountability for agent actions.Â
- Create partnerships across Global Tech including Fellows, Developer Experience, Technology Platforms and within Information Security to drive the adoption of NHI standardsÂ
- Mentor senior engineers and advise leadership on AI identity risk and strategy.Â
- 15+ years of Software Engineering experience building and deploying enterprise scale systems (multi-region, regulatory segmentation). Â
- 5+ years of experience in Identity, authentication and authorization at enterprise scale.Â
- Deep expertise in agentic AI system architectures, eg:Â
- Agent Orchestration FrameworkÂ
- Multi-agent Communication ProtocolsÂ
- Deep Expertise non-human identity lifecycle management.Â
- Proven leadership in continuous authentication, session risk evaluation, and long-running agent trust.Â
- Strong experience designing adaptive authorization (ABAC, policy-as-code, runtime enforcement)Â eg:Â
- SPIFFE/SPIRE attestation frameworksÂ
- CIMD – For Client registrationÂ
- Workload Identity Federation Patterns Â
- Expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native identity, workload identity, and service-to-service security.Â
- Strong understanding of Zero Trust, short-lived credentials, delegated authority, and least privilege.Â
- Working knowledge of AI security and regulatory frameworks (NIST AI RMF, ISO 42001, OWASP LLM, MITRE ATLAS).Â
- Ability to influence executives and articulate complex identity and AI risk clearly.Â
- Experience designing global-scale identity platforms.Â
- Deep cloud identity and Kubernetes workload identity experience.Â
- Prior work in regulated environments.Â

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
