Summary
Join our lens manufacturing team as a Backside Coating Technician, where you'll operate specialized equipment to apply protective scratch-resistant coatings to ophthalmic lenses. This critical role ensures lens durability and optical quality while preparing lenses for advanced treatments like anti-reflective coatings. You'll work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, maintaining high-quality standards and supporting overall production goals.
Primary Responsibilities
•    Ensure lenses are clean of dust and debris prior to coating applicationÂ
•    Apply back side scratch coating to lenses using automated equipmentÂ
•    Inspect lenses for defects after coating applicationÂ
•    Reject lenses with poor coating quality and route for reworkÂ
•    Return processed lenses to proper trays maintaining organizationÂ
•    Assist with routing work in the AR-preparation room
Key Skills Required
•    Must be able to understand prescription requirements and quality standards
•    The ability to do simple/basic math and measurements
•    Able to identify optical and cosmetic defects accurately
•    Problem solving skills for troubleshooting equipment
•    Basic computer skills and familiarity with inspection equipment systems
•    Attention to detail for accurate quality assessment
•    Manual dexterity for operating lens meters and inspection tools
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
Prior experience in optical/lens manufacturing is preferred
Physical Requirements
•    Regularly required to sit and use hands for grasping and manipulationÂ
•    Frequently required to reach with hands and armsÂ
•    Regularly required to walk, stoop, kneel, crawl, and/or crouchÂ
•    Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularlyÂ
•    Specific vision abilities required including close vision and ability to adjust focus
Safety Requirements
•    Understanding of workplace safety programs
•    Closed toe shoes and safety glasses when required
•    Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts
•    Safe tool handling practices
•    Moderate to loud noise work environment
