SUMMARY:

 

Manufacturing Mechanic (Facilities Technician)

The Culinary Center Facilities Technician is a mission-critical role at the heart of Culinary Services, driving the performance, reliability, and efficiency of the entire operation. This individual serves as the technical expert behind the scenes – ensuring all production equipment and facility systems run seamlessly, safely, and without disruption.

 

This is not a traditional maintenance role. It is a hands-on, high-impact position for someone who thrives on solving complex problems, optimizing advanced equipment, and making real-time decisions that directly influence uptime and operational success. Working in close partnership with operations and leadership, the Culinary Center Facilities Technician plays a pivotal role in elevating performance, strengthening compliance, and enabling the business to deliver at its highest level every day.

 

The Facilities Technician will work in both refrigerated and frozen environments at times.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Troubleshoot, analyze, repair, and maintain all electronic and instrumental production machinery.
  • mable logic controllers (PLC) and other microprocessor devices, motors and speed regulators including servos, feedback devices, cam switches, electronic display panels and industrial personal computers, photoelectric devices, bar-code readers, inductive proximity sensors, pneumatic actuators, temperature controllers, phase angle controllers, as well as relays and switching devices.
  • Design and implement test procedures for electrical/electronic and pneumatic devices used in machine/process control systems. Issue reports detailing all test results. 
  • Support start-up, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment and machinery.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on the following: packaging equipment, PLC Conveyance Systems, culinary equipment, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain Pro-seal Packing Technology Systems
  • Ensures that requirements for appropriate sanitation and safety levels in respective areas are met and staff trained.
  • Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with upper management and team in a professional manner.
  • Conduct recurring inventory and maintain records to comply with Whitsons, government and accrediting agency standards.
  • Coordinate activities with other internal departments and participate in management team meetings.
  • Determine the necessity for repair and/or replacement of equipment and perform required corrective operations while adhering to data architecture guidelines and PLC protocol.
  • Comply with all local, state, and national electrical code requirements.
  • 480, 240, 220 & 12 Volts and various amperages 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain necessary records.
  • Move materials as directed in the performance of duties.
  • Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and equipment
  • Follow prescribed safety rules and comply with OSHA regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as required or directed.

 

Pay Rate: $26.00-$32.00/hr based on skills and experience.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES: 

Education: 

  • High school graduate or equivalent. 
  • Must complete all Whitsons and government required training as necessary.

Other Qualifications, Experience and Competencies 

  • Minimum 2 years facility maintenance experience 
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment 
  • Strong communication skills—must have sufficient computer skills and be comfortable operating computer to properly navigate company computer programs to perform tasks.  
  • Ability to speak, read and write English to understand and perform job assignments. 
  • Forklift experience or certifications are a plus 
  • Always present an optimistic and professional image.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  

  • Be standing on feet majority of the workday in addition to walking back and forth. 
  • Bending, climbing and crawling to access machinery, reaching into small spaces. 
  • Lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Lifting while turning side to side is sometimes necessary. 
  • Be able to travel, locally, when required.  
  • Position may require extended hours including evenings and/or weekends 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  

  • The work is performed primarily in a manufacturing and warehouse environment, specifically the packing and warehousing areas 
  • Standing most of the workday is required.  
  • Work requires movement in and out of storerooms, near heavy machinery and freezers  
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures (hot and cold) due to cooking and refrigeration equipment. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
