GU Energy Labs is a family-owned, market-leading global sports nutrition brand, and we are looking for a Maintenance Mechanic to join our Production team!


About This Role

As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing equipment malfunctions using root-cause analysis, making repairs and adjustments as well as assigning tasks to mechanics, and managing maintenance work orders in REDZONE. You will also ensure that all machinery operates efficiently, adhering to safety and regulatory standards. We are looking for a dependable, proactive individual with excellent communication skills who is ready to jump in and support the team when needed.


This is position is on-site, Monday-Friday, at our Berkeley HQ.


You are excited about this opportunity because you will:

  • Lead troubleshooting and diagnostics of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and PLC systems to swiftly resolve production issues and minimize downtime.
  • Perform detailed failure analysis and root cause investigations, implementing corrective actions to eliminate recurring issues and enhance long-term system reliability.
  • Create and implement a proactive maintenance strategy across all machinery, designed to maximize performance, minimize downtime, and achieve key safety, productivity, and quality objectives.
  • Oversee critical repairs and system upgrades, ensuring full compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards such as GMP, OSHA, FDA, EPA
  • and HACCP.
  • Foster a culture of safety and regulatory adherence; manage safety team meetings and review safety checks.
  • Manage inventory and parts tracking, optimizing parts usage and proactively recommending reorders to prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Analyze equipment performance data to identify improvement opportunities, cost-saving initiatives, and areas for operational efficiency gains.
  • Ensure meticulous documentation of maintenance activities, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements and maintaining audit-ready records.
  • Apply Lean manufacturing principles to drive continuous improvement, streamline operations, and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

We are excited about you because you have:

  • Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial maintenance, or a related field; and/or a
  • Technical certification in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or electrical systems.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a maintenance role within a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management position.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills in diagnostics and problem-solving.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Experience with reading and interpreting equipment manuals to apply knowledge for repairs.
  • Strong experience with electrical systems, including starters, fuses, contacts, and relays.
  • Proficiency in maintaining mechanical systems such as gearboxes, chains, sprockets, motors, and bearings.
  • Experience with electronic systems including level probes, flow meters, drives/VFDs, and pumps.
  • Deep understanding of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and safety standards such as lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  • Proven experience with food manufacturing or packaging equipment.
