Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSECytopreparatory Technician prepares Cytology specimens for evaluation. Technician is responsible for accessioning and troubleshooting select Cytology specimens. Technicians are responsible maintaining laboratory conditions, quality assurance practice and instrument maintenance in accordance with laboratory policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
GYN cytopreparation:Â 35%Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
- Prepares GYN specimens utilizing Hologic ThinPrep processors.
- Utilizes automated slide stainer and coverslipper.
- Facilitates Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) testing, performed by Virology.
- Performs preventive maintenance of instrumentation as required for efficient operation.
Non-gyn cytopreparation:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
- Accessions and triages non-GYN specimens to determine appropriate method of preparation.
- Prepares cell blocks and special stains slides as necessary.
- Performs preventive maintenance of instrumentation as required for efficient operation.

- Monitors and orders Laboratory supplies as needed.
- Follows universal health and safety precautions.
- Prepares additional specimens and re-preps for studies, projects, and teaching materials.

- Maintains automated and manual stain setups.
- Manages incoming specimens and collaborates with other departments to retrieve additional specimen.  Â
- Maintains Quality Assurance standards.
- Facilitates additional diagnostic testing of Cytology specimens.
- Performs annual physical inventory counts of supplies and reagents as required by Laboratory Administration.
- Manages storage of residual specimens and discards appropriately.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Associate's degree in Medical Technology required
- Associate's degree in a natural science, or a clinical laboratory science and coursework acceptable to NYSED required
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Clinical Laboratory Technician NYS licensure upon hire required
