Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

GYN cytopreparation: 35%             

• Prepares GYN specimens utilizing Hologic ThinPrep processors.
• Utilizes automated slide stainer and coverslipper.
• Facilitates Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) testing, performed by Virology.
• Performs preventive maintenance of instrumentation as required for efficient operation.

Non-gyn cytopreparation:                                                                                                                  

• Accessions and triages non-GYN specimens to determine appropriate method of preparation.
• Prepares cell blocks and special stains slides as necessary.
• Performs preventive maintenance of instrumentation as required for efficient operation.

Miscellaneous responsibilities:                                                                                                                             

• Monitors and orders Laboratory supplies as needed.
• Follows universal health and safety precautions.
• Prepares additional specimens and re-preps for studies, projects, and teaching materials.

Additional daily operational responsibilities:                                                                                              

• Maintains automated and manual stain setups.
• Manages incoming specimens and collaborates with other departments to retrieve additional specimen.   
• Maintains Quality Assurance standards.
• Facilitates additional diagnostic testing of Cytology specimens.
• Performs annual physical inventory counts of supplies and reagents as required by Laboratory Administration.
• Manages storage of residual specimens and discards appropriately.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Associate's degree in Medical Technology required
• Associate's degree in a natural science, or a clinical laboratory science and coursework acceptable to NYSED required
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Clinical Laboratory Technician NYS licensure upon hire required
