Mechanic

Position Summary

The Mechanic helps keep the cooperative's vehicles, trailers, and equipment safe, reliable, and ready for daily use. This position performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, inspections, and fabrication work on a wide variety of fleet and utility equipment.

This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys hands-on mechanical work, diagnosing problems, welding and fabrication, and working on different types of equipment. The Fleet Mechanic supports employees across the cooperative by helping ensure they have dependable vehicles and equipment to safely perform their work.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities may include:

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on cooperative vehicles and equipment.
• Service light-duty and heavy-duty trucks, trailers, utility bodies, hydraulic equipment, and other fleet assets.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, braking, steering, suspension, and other equipment problems.
• Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, fluid service, filters, brakes, batteries, belts, hoses, tires, and other wear items.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment for safety concerns, needed repairs, and developing maintenance issues.
• Perform welding, cutting, drilling, fitting, and metal fabrication for equipment repairs and modifications.
• Fabricate or modify brackets, mounts, guards, racks, tool storage, and other components as needed.
• Assist with installation and repair of utility bodies, accessories, lighting, towing equipment, and other fleet components.
• Maintain accurate maintenance, repair, inspection, and parts records.
• Use diagnostic tools, shop equipment, hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other specialized equipment safely.
• Coordinate with employees and supervisors regarding equipment problems, repair needs, and vehicle availability.
• Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient shop and work area.
• Assist with road service or field repairs when necessary.
• Help identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, and maintenance practices.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Candidates should:

• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Have relevant experience in automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, fleet maintenance, welding, fabrication, or a related field.
• Have strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Be able to safely use common shop tools, diagnostic equipment, and repair equipment.
• Have experience with welding and metal fabrication or a willingness to develop those skills.
• Be able to read and understand service information, diagrams, specifications, and technical instructions.
• Have good attention to detail and a strong commitment to safe work practices.
• Be dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple repair priorities.
• Be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Be willing to learn the specialized vehicles and equipment used by an electric distribution cooperative.

Experience with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, aerial devices, utility trucks, trailers, welding, or commercial fleet maintenance is preferred.

Position Details

This is a full-time position supporting the cooperative's vehicle and equipment fleet. The Mechanic plays an important role in keeping employees equipped with safe, dependable vehicles and equipment needed to maintain and operate the electric distribution system.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6:00 am – 2:30 pm.
