As Design Engineer you will manage project design lifecycle from conception to full scale production – this includes component design, support with sourcing, support building prototypes, creation of test plans, and leading a cross-functional project design team to achieve timely completion project milestones.
Location: Onsite - Bessemer, Alabama
What You’ll Do
- Designing, developing, and testing high voltage switches, components, or systems.
- Applying mathematical and engineering principles and methods to electrical system designs.
- Contributing to research efforts to develop a solution or a new product.
- Managing project design lifecycle from conception to full scale production – this includes component design, support with sourcing, support building prototypes, creation of test plans, and leading a cross-functional project design team to achieve timely completion project milestones.
- Documenting results of testing in engineering test reports & write assembly procedures for manufacturing team.
- Leading FMEA events to gain a detailed understanding of potential failure modes and take appropriate action to prevent occurrence.
- Representing the company at IEEE standards committee meetings and participating in high voltage switch subcommittee meetings.
What You’ll Need to Excel in This Role
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an accredited university.
- A minimum of 5 years of product design experience with a strong preference to design of substation equipment.
- Detailed knowledge of the limitations & capabilities of the following processes – sand casting, permanent mold casting, machining, and welding.
- Experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD and Finite Element Analysis through SolidWorks Simulation.
- Demonstrated experience with bringing new products to market

- Strong skills in developing and presenting performance metrics reports
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with others
- Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data
- Ability to prepare and present comprehensive reports
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including preparing and presenting information
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed as needed
- WMS experience and knowledge preferred
- ERP system knowledge (JD Edwards preferred)
