Job Description


Job Title: Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) 
Department: Laboratory 
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt - Eligible for Overtime 
Employment Status: Full-Time

Location: Harrison County Community Hospital (HCCH) 

Job Summary/Objective 
Performs and interprets various chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to assist in the 
diagnosis and treatment of patients. Responsible for complex assignments requiring advanced 
technical skills, knowledge, and problem-solving abilities. 


Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities 
• Perform routine laboratory testing in serology, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis and 
immunohematology following established policies and procedures. 
• Analyze test results, identify abnormalities, and communicate findings to appropriate 
medical personnel. 
• Perform complex laboratory tests and maintain accurate documentation of all processes 
and results. 
• Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring 
proper calibration and functionality, including laboratory information system.  
•  Maintain laboratory stock, restocking supplies, and managing inventory to support 
uninterrupted laboratory operations. 
• Collect specimens from patients while ensuring proper labeling, handling, and storage of 
samples. 
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems that may arise during testing. 
• Monitor quality control measures to ensure accuracy and precision in test results. 
• Maintain knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and comply with 
all relevant protocols and regulations. 
• Participate in continuing education and training to remain current with developments in the 
field of medical technology. 
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide timely and accurate diagnostic 
information. 
• Other duties as assigned.


Skills/Abilities 
• In-depth knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and best practices. 
• Proficiency in the use of laboratory equipment, including advanced analytical instruments. 
• Ability to interpret test results accurately and communicate findings effectively. 
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. 
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. 
• Familiarity with laboratory quality control and safety standards. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 


Education and Experience 
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent 
• Certification: Certified MLS, MT or CLS  
• Experience: Prior laboratory experience preferred but not required.  


Physical Requirements 
• Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods. 
• Manual dexterity to handle laboratory equipment and specimens with precision. 
• Ability to lift and carry laboratory supplies or equipment as needed.
