Bell & Evans is looking for a reliable and safety-focused Yard Jockey to join our Transportation team!

As a Yard Jockey, you will play an important role in keeping our operation moving by safely transporting trailers between loading docks and the yard. You will work closely with our shipping and transportation teams to ensure trailers and equipment are positioned where they are needed to support daily operations.

1st Shift; Monday - Friday; 3:30am - until finished (between 11:30am - 1pm) 

What You'll Do

  • Safely operate a diesel-powered yard tractor to move trailers throughout the facility.
  • Pull trailers away from loading docks and stage them in the yard.
  • Back trailers into loading docks as needed.
  • Perform routine safety checks on yard equipment and trailers.
  • Monitor refrigerated trailers to ensure proper equipment operation and temperature control.
  • Adjust refrigeration temperature settings when needed and report shutdown codes or equipment issues to your supervisor.
  • Open and close trailer doors and secure trailers using locks and seals.
  • Maintain radio communication with shipping personnel to receive instructions on trailer and equipment movements.
  • Move other company equipment, including straight trucks, when needed.
  • Maintain accurate logs of yard moves throughout your shift.
  • Report safety concerns, equipment issues, and operational challenges to leadership.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous Yard Jockey, driving, warehouse, transportation, or equipment operation experience is helpful—but we are willing to train the right candidate!
  • A good driving record is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment in a busy yard environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work independently while staying connected with the team.
  • Strong attention to safety and detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

An MVR may be completed as part of the hiring process to verify driving history.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • Walk, stand, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout the shift.
  • Safely enter and exit vehicles using three points of contact.
  • Use hands and arms to operate equipment and controls.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
  • Maintain the vision required to safely operate vehicles and equipment, including close, distance, peripheral, and night vision.

This position works primarily in an active transportation yard and outdoor environment. Employees may regularly work around:

  • Moving vehicles and trailers
  • Mechanical equipment and moving parts
  • Loading docks and elevated work areas
  • Changing weather conditions
  • Busy transportation and shipping operations
