AACOM is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and help maintain complete, accurate, and timely financial records. This role leads core accounting processes, strengthens internal controls, supports budgeting and audits, and partners across the organization to meet reporting and compliance requirements.

ABOUT AACOM
The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, or AACOM, was founded in 1898 to lend support and assistance to the nation's osteopathic medical schools, and to serve as a unifying voice for osteopathic medical education. WHAT YOU’LL DO
Financial Management and Reporting
- Maintain financial records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and AACOM policies.
- Lead monthly and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and distribute departmental reports on time.
- Prepare and review bank and investment account reconciliations; monitor daily cash activity and balances.
- Maintain effective internal controls and recommend improvements to accounting processes and procedures.
- Support the annual financial statement audit, Form 990 preparation, and other audit or tax requests.
- Prepare quarterly lobbying reports and other federal, state, or local filings as assigned.
- Assist with the preparation, allocation, monitoring, and analysis of the annual budget.
Payroll and Benefits Administration
- Manage biweekly payroll, review time cards and payroll changes, and reconcile payroll and related benefit accounts.
- Coordinate employee benefit enrollments and changes with Talent & Culture and benefit providers.
- Research payroll requirements and coordinate payroll registration and setup in new states.
Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Expenses
- Oversee accounts payable, including vendor invoice processing, documentation, approvals, general ledger coding, and timely payment.
- Administer employee expense reimbursement and corporate card programs; review reports and reconcile transactions.
- Manage accounts receivable, including customer invoicing, cash application, aging review, and collection follow-up.
- Maintain vendor and customer records and support accurate year-end reporting, including Forms 1099.
Leadership and Partnership
- Supervise, train, and review the work of assigned accounting staff.
- Serve as a resource to departments on accounting procedures, coding, and financial reporting questions.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
WHO WE NEED
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- At least five years of accounting experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of GAAP.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support staff, balance workloads, and ensure accounting responsibilities are completed accurately and on time.
- Sound judgment and accountability, including the ability to resolve problems and escalate significant issues appropriately.
- Ability to analyze financial information, improve processes, and support organizational, system, and procedural changes.
- Ability to communicate financial information, priorities, and expectations clearly to financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to foster a collaborative, inclusive, and service-oriented team environment.
- High degree of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism, with a commitment to financial policies and internal controls.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with nonprofit accounting, grant management, or fund accounting.
- Experience using ADP, Sage Intacct, BILL, and Nexonia.
- CPA certification or active progress toward certification

COMPENSATION AND WORK ARRANGEMENT
This is a full-time exempt position with a remote work arrangement. Occasional domestic travel is required. The salary range for this position is $101,000 to $109,000 annually.
