GDIT is looking for a Senior Oracle Database & Middleware Engineer to join our National Institutes of Health (NIH) CIT Hosting and Storage Services Program.
We are seeking an experienced engineer who combines deep Oracle database expertise with strong enterprise infrastructure and middleware knowledge to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing technology services. Our ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience supporting complex Oracle environments and can independently diagnose challenging technical problems, lead major upgrades and migrations, and provide technical guidance to customers and other engineers.
As a member of our Database Services team, this engineer will provide technical leadership for Oracle database and middleware services across on-premises and cloud environments. The successful candidate will balance day-to-day operational excellence with modernization, helping improve performance, security, automation, resiliency, and service delivery while guiding customers through complex database and application hosting requirements.
 This is a HYBRID role - 3 days on customer site in Bethesda MD.  Â
This role will require you to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and will require you to provide onsite fingerprinting at a designated facility.  This investigation may review personal and criminal behavior, financial conduct, foreign influence, as well as other adjudications. Â
Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior technical expert for Oracle database and middleware services, administering and supporting complex production environments and providing technical guidance to engineers, application teams, and customers.
- Lead troubleshooting and performance optimization for complex database, middleware, operating system, connectivity, and application issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
- Maintain secure and compliant environments through configuration hardening, vulnerability remediation, security patching, access management, and implementation of required database and middleware security baselines.
- Lead major database and middleware lifecycle initiatives, including installations, upgrades, migrations, platform modernization, high availability and disaster recovery improvements, and migrations from on-premises infrastructure to cloud environments.
- Partner with application teams and customers to design and implement database and middleware solutions, support schema and data changes, optimize application/database interactions, and provide technical recommendations for complex requirements.
- Develop automation, scripts, engineering standards, technical documentation, and repeatable operational practices that improve reliability, consistency, efficiency, and service delivery.
- Mentor other engineers, contribute to technical strategy and architecture decisions, and participate in incident management, change management, project execution, and continuous improvement across the Database Services portfolio.
Required Qualifications
- BS/BA and 6+ years of relevant IT experience, or equivalent experience.
- Deep hands-on Oracle database administration experience in complex production environments, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, backup/recovery, performance tuning, and high availability/disaster recovery.
- Hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting enterprise middleware technologies, including configuration, patching, performance, security, and application integration.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills across databases, middleware, operating systems, storage, networking, and applications, including root cause analysis of complex production issues.
- Experience securing database and middleware environments through vulnerability remediation, configuration hardening, access management, encryption, certificate management, and security baselines.
- Experience leading complex upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives, including cloud migrations, and using scripting and automation technologies such as SQL/PL/SQL, PowerShell, Python, Bash, or Ansible.
- Strong technical leadership and customer engagement experience, including solution design, technical documentation, mentoring engineers, and advising customers and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced experience with Oracle high availability and enterprise technologies such as RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, Enterprise Manager, and Oracle WebLogic or comparable middleware platforms.
- Experience architecting and migrating Oracle workloads to AWS or Azure, including cloud-native database services, automation, Infrastructure as Code, and hybrid database architectures.
- Relevant Oracle, AWS, Azure, or middleware certifications and experience supporting mission-critical systems within federal government, healthcare, life sciences, or similarly regulated environments.

The likely salary range for this position is $124,093 - $158,700. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.Scheduled Weekly Hours:
