SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the MSW Program Director and the BSW Program Director; Reports directly to the Dean of the School of Behavioral & Community Health (SoBaCH).

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assists in the supervision of student workers as needed for field/practicum activities.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Field Coordinator for the Social Work Programs (FCSW) is a 12-month, administrative position. The FCSW is responsible for the development, maintenance, and coordination of clinical education/practicum education sites for the Social Work Programs housed in SoBaCH: Masters of Social Work (MSW) and Bachelors of Social Work (BSW), as well as any other social work programs launched by the School with field education requirements. Per the accreditation guidelines of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), a minimum of 50% of the FCSW time will be focused on MSW Field Education and a minimum of 25% of the FCSW time will be focused on the BSW Field Education.

Additionally, the FCSW is the link between the programs and its field liaisons (faculty), field supervisors/instructors, and other educators with regard to clinical instructor education, clinical instructor evaluation, student field assessment, and student field remediation efforts related to clinical education. The FCSW works collaboratively with the MSW Program Director and the BSW Program Director in developing and maintaining clinical education, clinical site documentation, and field manual policy and document, as required for program accreditation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represent Moravian University with integrity in all activities;
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff across all programs within the School, College, and University;
  • Identify, recruit, and secure field/practicum education sites for their programs, including clinical, macro, and generalist placements, in conjunction with School staff, Directors, Instructors, & Professors;
  • Develop and implement Field/Practicum Orientation and ongoing educational programs for field instructors;
  • Develop and implement a retention program for practicum education sites, field supervisors, and task supervisors;
  • Perform practicum education site visits (in-person, virtually, or by phone), with the assistance of the faculty members teaching the field/practicum seminar courses, and the MSW/BSW Program Directors as needed;  
  • Serve as primary point of contact between their programs and current or potential practicum education/field education sites and field instructors with regard to practicum education / field education requirements, credentialing, and contractual obligations;
  • Develop and implement a plan for student placements and student progression at practicum education/field education sites, including meeting all accreditation requirements (if applicable);
  • Develop and maintain, with assistance from School staff, databases related to health requirements, immunizations, drug screens, safety guidelines, and criminal background checks for students completing practicum education to ensure compliance with program and accreditation (if applicable) policies and procedures;
  •  Orient students to pre-clinical education/pre-field education requirements and program expectations during practicum education/field education, including maintaining the Field Education materials on Canvas and conducting orientation seminars at the start of Fall and Spring semesters;
  •  Monitor student progression within the practicum education / field education component of their programs, communicating with the MSW/BSW Program Directors as needed to support student success and mitigate potential problems;
  •  Facilitate the collection of necessary data for the evaluation of student and field instructor performance during clinical education/field education;
  •  Perform annual assessment of field instructors and practicum sites, providing appropriate feedback to individuals regarding performance in clinical education/field education;
  •  Assist with accreditation efforts (2022 EPAS, or as required), including completion of initial and ongoing accreditation self-studies and annual accreditation reports in conjunction with the MSW/BSW Program Directors (if applicable);
  • Participate in institutional regional accreditation efforts, if needed;
  • The FCSW is expected to participate in the MSW Residency Weekends, being available for the three on-campus, weekend residencies (9am to 4pm) each semester. The MSW Residency schedule from 2026-2028 is available here.
  • Assist with admissions-related events for social work programs, providing information about the field/practicum education component; 
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings of the MSW program, BSW program, School of Behavioral & Community Health, College of Health, and the University;
  • Collaborate with other Field professionals within the College of Health to develop, assess, and modify existing policy regarding clinical and field education; and
  • Participate in career fair events hosted by the College of Health, including engaging with clinical partners and assisting with the awarding of clinical education awards to clinical instructors and clinical sites.

QUALIFICATIONS: Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree required from a CSWE-accredited program, as well as a minimum of two years post-MSW practice experience in the field of social work. Must have the ability to provide leadership to the field education program through practice experience, field instruction experience, and/or administrative or other relevant academic and professional activities in social work. Knowledge of the CSWE accreditation process and compliance is preferred. 

Must have strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills. Proficiency in computer applications, with expertise in word processing; familiarity with internet research, databases, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace is preferred. Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse University and Community partners is crucial. Must have the ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required to support program needs is required.
