SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direction of the Moravian University Community School Coordinator at William Penn Elementary School.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
LOCATION: William Penn Elementary School
SCHEDULE: Monday-Thursday; typically 2:00pm-6:00pm with flexibility; 16 hours per week.
POSITION SUMMARY: The activities coordinator is responsible for coordinating logistics for all after-school enrichment and recreational programming at the community school site. Work is done with direction from the community school coordinator. Data-driven decision making will be used to meet student needs and support social-emotional, physical and academic growth leading to improvements in grade-level reading. This is a part-time position during the Bethlehem Area School District school year.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruitment of identified students for connection to before, during and after-school programs
- Distribution and collection of parent/guardian signed student participate permission slips
- Maintenance of daily program attendance tracking and yearly attendance tracking.
- Communication with community partners and parents/guardians on a daily basis and resolution of any concerns of these parties
- Distribution and collection of completed pre- and post-surveys for each program
- Management of process for collecting programmatic data from each provider for individual students
- Work with the community school coordinator to assist in report completion
- Contact parents/guardians of changes or cancellations of programs
- Management of organization and distribution of snacks to each program on a daily basis
- Develop, maintain, and promote relationships with school staff, students, parents/guardians and community partners.
- Participate in the school core team meetings, if necessary
- Enforce structured pickup times for parents/guardians of student participants
- Follow school policy for supervising students attending after school programming
- Identify volunteer needs in programming and collaborate with community school coordinator to recruit, train, and monitor volunteers
- Assist program providers with managing discipline issues in program and contact parents/guardians about disciplinary concerns
- Assist with data and survey collection as related to basic needs; plan, sort, coordinate and distribute food, clothing, and resources as necessary
- Assist with seasonal drives as needed; sorting, advertising, and distributing to families (e.g. back to school, Thanksgiving, holidays, etc)
- Help identify additional program and grant opportunities for William Penn
QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of experience working with youth. High school diploma necessary, associate degree preferred. Experience working with social services preferred. Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Must be personable, accepting and service-oriented. Must be flexible and able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions. Ability to follow written and verbal directions and communication effectively through speech and writing. Must be able to exercise good judgment. Bi-lingual fluency (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
