Description

    

Summary/Objective

The CMM Programmer supports new product development and metrology investigations through sample measurements and feedback, has early involvement in drawing and GD&T reviews and measurement capability evaluations


Essential Functions

  • Apply advanced knowledge of GD&T and metrology principles to program CMM’s/vision systems ensuring products meet specifications and drawings
  • Resolve issues and respond to inquiries from operators, inspectors and engineers
  • Work with Quality Engineering to ensure that set-ups and programs are accurate
  • Participate in or lead special projects related to tooling fixtures and gages
  • Identify and drives cost reduction projects utilizing Lean Manufacturing principle
  • Work closely with the team to determine efficiency improvements
  • Create CMM programs using part drawings or models and perform inspections as required
  • Troubleshoot and/or amend existing CMM programs
  • Perform validation and verification of programs (CMM, vision systems, etc.)
  • Take critical measurements using gauges, fixtures and other measurement tools
  • Provide inspection support to all departments, performing part inspection and FAIs 
  • Train other inspectors and technicians 
  • Perform other responsibilities as required


Requirements

Competencies

  • Advanced knowledge of metrology programs and strong working knowledge of GD&T (read and interpret)
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment including mechanical inspection of precision parts 
  • Solid experience with inspection equipment and tools
  • Proficiency in CMM programming skills/training
  • Knowledge of ERP systems
  • Ability to multi-task without losing track of details
  • Good verbal and written communication skills (in English)
  • Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office suite

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct reports.


Work Environment
This job operates in a manufacturing environment and routinely uses shop floor tools and machinery.


Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery for precision work 
  • Visual acuity (corrected) to read directions and prints and to inspect machined parts closely to ensure that they meet specifications 
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, move about the shop floor, talk, hear, bend and reach with hands and arms   
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 
  • Ability to squat or kneel occasionally 
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time hourly position and operates Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm.


Travel

Occasional (Less than 10%) 


Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a manufacturing environment including mechanical inspection of precision parts
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience with inspection equipment and tools.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience with advanced CMM programming.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience using advanced vision system programming.
