The Health and Wellness Coordinator is a Registered Nurse who conducts assessments and provides appropriate medical management for acute illnesses, injuries, and stable chronic illnesses of students. In addition, the Health and Wellness Coordinator provides routine nursing treatment and emergency care for students. This position also designs, implements, and manages community initiatives, focusing on physical/mental health, resource navigation, and outreach through workshops, events, and partnerships. This involves budget management, data tracking, and collaboration with campus partners. 


Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties


Nursing Services


  • Provides assessment, treatment, and care coordination for students in accordance with standing orders and medical protocols established by the supervising physician and applicable state regulations. 

  • Assesses and triages all students visiting the health office.  Documents and keeps a record of each student's visit to the health office. Follow up with student health visits as appropriate.

  • Ensures quality customer care by providing assistance, support, and advice to students on general health and wellness matters. 

  • Organize and maintain student health records

  • Establish standards and procedures for first aid care; provide appropriate first aid care as necessary on campus.

  • Monitor student compliance with the Massachusetts State immunization and health regulations. Reviews all immunization records for incoming students and communicates with students when vaccine records are incomplete.  Places health holds when appropriate and communicates with the Admission Office as appropriate.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of college health issues and public health nursing materials, methods, and procedures.

  • Maintain high standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the position.

  • Uphold a liaison with local health agencies and use these health resources for a referral.

  • Report to the Medical Supervisor on an as-needed basis. Review and update nursing protocols annually and send them to the Medical Supervisor for signature in early Fall.

  • Attend Student Affairs weekly meetings and weekly one-on-ones with the Dean of Students.

  • Participate in orientation each semester and other campus-wide events as directed.

  • Conduct training sessions with Resident Assistants and Orientation Leaders.

  • Attend College Health Association of Administrators and Nursing Directors (CHAAND) meetings as schedule allows.

  • Provide appropriate referrals to internal and external medical and mental health personnel, and other campus resources.

  • Order and maintain medical supplies


Health and Wellness Services


  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-informed wellness programming tailored to higher education.

  • Develop and coordinate digital and print campaigns to promote wellness resources, programs, and events. 

  • Provide support to wellness-focused student groups and serve as a liaison for student wellness initiatives.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Counseling and assist the director with strategic planning processes. 

  • Conduct needs assessments and program evaluations, and analyze new and existing data to respond to findings strategically.

  • Incorporate social justice principles and inclusive practices into wellness promotion processes. 

  • Depending on residence location, possible Administrator On Call Duties once a month


Requirements and Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing with experience in Public or School Health or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and evaluating health education programs.

  • Knowledge of inclusive practices and experience supporting diverse student populations. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of health issues that impact college student success

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and foster working partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated communication, organization, and project management skills. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education and understanding of the student development and learning environment. 

  • Experience with supervising student employees, peer educators, or interns.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, which can include overseeing campus initiatives, representing a team in committees, or leadership in professional organizations.
