Role Overview

Under general supervision of the Director of Operations, the Community Housing Navigator works to address the housing needs of families (as defined by the United to Solve Homelessness Grant through United Way of Yellowstone County) who are currently homeless, and seeking permanent housing.  This position is here to make the process easier to understand, more approachable, and more connected to the right resources.  This is a 2 year grant funded position.

In this role, you will:
- Talk with clients to learn what they need and help identify housing options and community resources
- Assist with applications and documentation, helping address common barriers along the way
- Partner with property contacts and local service providers so support is coordinated and timely
- Keep clear, accurate records of outreach, progress, and outcomes

What you’ll bring:
- Respectful communication, strong listening, and comfort working with the public
- Care with sensitive information and a steady, service-focused approach
- Basic computer skills, organization, and reliable follow-through

Training is provided. If you’re ready to build practical skills while helping neighbors navigate next steps, we’d be glad to receive your application.

A Typical Day

Your day as a Community Housing Navigator is onsite, Monday–Friday, 8AM–4PM. You’ll start by reviewing your schedule and messages, then spend time in a mix of client conversations, quick check-ins with partners, and focused desk time. Some moments are people-facing and fast-moving; others are quieter and detail-oriented. You’ll often shift between listening, clarifying what someone needs, and setting up the next step so they leave with a clear plan. You’ll wrap up by updating notes and preparing for tomorrow so nothing gets lost in the shuffle.
