Position Overview

Location: Binghamton General Hospital
Department: GI Lab
Schedule: 36 hours weekly/Day Rotation

UHS is seeking a GI Technical Associate to join our GI Lab team. In this role, under direction, the GI Technical Associate, assists the Gastroenterologist in the procedure rooms and anticipates their needs. Participates in patient care and safety, reprocesses endoscopes, utilizes GI supplies conservatively, and operates as a team member of the GI Staff. May maintain, document, and distribute clean and sterile products per established infection control standards.

This is a full‑time, 36‑hour weekly position on a day rotation schedule at Binghamton General Hospital.

Essential Functions:
Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that are performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Collects data related to patient needs, problems or concerns and performs clinical measurements (i.e., vital signs).

  • Assists, under the direction of the GI Registered Nurse, in the implementation of the established plan of care.

  • Provides procedural assistance to the Gastroenterologist and GI Registered Nurse before, during, and after diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

  • Participates in quality management and performance improvement activities as directed.

  • Collaborates with the Gastroenterology team and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality and continuity of patient care.

Non-Essential Functions:
Duties the employee may perform that are not essential as defined in the job description.

  • Will perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

Minimum Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

  • GI Technical Specialist (GTS) online course completion through the Society of Gastrointestinal Assistants (SGNA)
  • Previous patient care experience


License/Certification

Minimum Required:

  • GI Technical Specialist (GTS) online course completion through the Society of Gastrointestinal Assistants (SGNA) within 18 months of hire

Preferred:

  • CPR Certification
