GMC has an opening for an Environmental Scientist I to support on-going projects in Birmingham, AL office. This position will have responsibilities focused on managing National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Construction Stormwater compliance. Other responsibilities include working on biological resources-related projects, preparing technical reports and plans in accordance with agency requirements, and assisting the biological resources team during environmental reviews of projects by the appropriate jurisdictions and agencies. This position provides professional development training and future growth opportunities.

Essential functions and responsibilities include:

  • NPDES General Construction Stormwater Permit compliance and site inspection reporting
  • Field work associated with GIS inventory projects
  • Field work associated with wetland/stream delineations and land management monitoring
  • Understand key map elements and create static maps using ArcGIS
  • Ability to write reports and communicate with internal and external clients
  • You will be required to operate a company-owned vehicle in the performance of your duties
  • Demonstrate effective team contribution and employee development 
  • Other activities as directed by your supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science, policy, and/or management related field
  • 0-2+ Years of experience
  • Physically able to perform field work
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Required to provide proof of a valid State license and safe driving record

Travel requirements:

  • Position requires 40% Office and 60% Field
  • Occasional overnight travel
