General Laborer – Freezer Clean-Up

$21.15/hour | No Experience Required | Excellent Benefits After 60 Days

Do you like staying busy, working independently, and being the person others can count on to get things done?

Mayfield Ice Cream is looking for a dependable, self-motivated General Laborer – Freezer Clean-Up to help keep our freezer warehouse and surrounding areas clean, organized, and safe.

This is a hands-on job that is a great fit for someone who likes a routine, takes pride in their work, and doesn't need someone looking over their shoulder to stay productive.

No previous warehouse or sanitation experience is required. We can teach you the job. What matters most is that you show up, work safely, take ownership of your responsibilities, and look for ways to help when your regular work is complete.

Pay & Benefits

Starting pay: $21.15 per hour

Eligible employees receive an excellent benefits package after 60 days of employment, including:

  • Medical insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Company 401(k) match
  • Additional monthly company retirement contribution, independent of the company match

That means the company contributes toward your retirement in two ways: through the 401(k) match and through a separate monthly company contribution (regardless if you contribute).

What You'll Do

Your primary responsibility will be maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and safety of our freezer warehouse and surrounding areas. Much of the work follows a regular routine and includes:

  • Sweeping and mopping warehouse and work areas
  • Cleaning employee breakrooms, restrooms, and common areas
  • Removing cardboard, shrink wrap, packaging materials, trash, and other debris
  • Taking cardboard to the baler and waste to designated dumpsters or containers
  • Keeping warehouse aisles, dock doors, loading areas, and other high-traffic areas clean and clear
  • Cleaning exterior areas, including portions of the parking lot and areas surrounding the warehouse
  • Breaking down boxes and other materials
  • Completing general housekeeping and sanitation tasks
  • Moving, stacking, loading, or unloading materials, cases, crates, pallets, or supplies as needed
  • Delivering supplies or materials to designated work areas
  • Assisting freezer warehouse employees and leadership with other tasks as needed
  • Reporting unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, quality issues, or other irregularities
  • Completing required paperwork accurately and legibly

A Job for Someone Who Sees What Needs to Be Done

This position works somewhat independently. You will have regular cleaning and housekeeping responsibilities, but a supervisor will not be directing your every move throughout the day. Successful employees in this role stay productive without constant supervision. That means:

  • Following your regular cleaning and housekeeping routine without repeated reminders
  • Managing your time and completing assigned responsibilities
  • Noticing when something needs attention and taking appropriate action
  • Checking with teammates or leadership for additional work when your regular tasks are complete
  • Being willing to pitch in and help wherever needed
  • Taking the same pride in your work whether someone is watching or not

If you're someone who naturally looks around and asks, “What needs to be done next?”, you'll probably fit this job very well.

Yes, You'll Work in a Freezer

We want applicants to know this before they apply.

Our freezer warehouse includes areas ranging from approximately 28°F to as low as -40°F.

You will not normally remain in the coldest areas for long periods of time, but you must be willing and able to enter and work in freezer conditions as part of your regular responsibilities.

Required cold-weather PPE are provided by the company and may include:

  • Insulated, temperature-resistant coveralls
  • Safety-toed, slip-resistant footwear
  • Insulated gloves
  • Balaclava or other face/head protection
  • Other required safety equipment

You'll bundle up, complete the work that needs to be done, and then move in and out of freezer areas as your assignments require.

Qualifications

You May Be a Great Fit If You...

  • Are dependable and show up ready to work
  • Like having a routine and don't mind repetitive tasks
  • Take pride in keeping things clean and organized
  • Are comfortable working independently
  • Stay productive without constant supervision
  • Look for work rather than waiting to be told what to do
  • Are willing to help teammates when your own responsibilities are complete
  • Can follow instructions and established procedures
  • Are comfortable performing physical, hands-on work
  • Can work in cold and extreme-cold environments while wearing required PPE
  • Work safely and pay attention to your surroundings
  • Can work effectively as part of a team
  • Can understand and communicate work-related information in English
  • Can complete basic written records legibly

Experience

No previous experience is required.

Previous warehouse, manufacturing, sanitation, janitorial, or general labor experience can be helpful, but we are primarily looking for someone with the right work habits and attitude.

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Why This Job Matters

Keeping a food manufacturing warehouse clean isn't just about appearances.

This role helps keep employees safe, maintain food safety and sanitation standards, keep dock and warehouse operations running efficiently, prevent clutter and debris from becoming hazards, and create a cleaner workplace for everyone.

The person doing this job may not always be the most visible person in the warehouse, but the difference they make is visible every day.

Safety, Food Quality & GMP Requirements

All employees are expected to:

  • Work safely and help maintain safe working conditions
  • Follow applicable health and safety requirements
  • Follow all DFA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Comply with company food safety, quality, sanitation, and regulatory requirements
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, quality concerns, or operational issues

The responsibilities listed above describe the general nature of the position and are not intended to include every task that may be assigned. Other duties may be assigned based on operational needs.
