The Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham is a 32-bed open bay unit where we provide advanced treatment for the smallest and most vulnerable patients with a range of infant complications, including prematurity, respiratory distress, neonatal sepsis, neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), and birth injuries. With a dedicated team of board-certified neonatologists and experienced neonatal nurse practitioners, we work closely with the UAB Women & Infants Center and Children’s of Alabama to deliver expert care. Nurses on this unit get a rewarding experience where they can offer empathy, parental education, and support in a compassionate environment for neonatal care.

 

What You Will Do

Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

  • Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
  • Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • ACLS obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • PALS obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

Education:

  • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND professional licensure at time of hire.

Additional Preferences

Certification specializing in The S.T.A.B.L.E Program preferred.
