Overview

NaphCare is hiring a Pharmacist to join our pharmacy team at our Corporate Headquarters located in Birmingham, AL. This role is responsible for clinical review of medication orders, interdisciplinary communication and oversigh of medication dispensing and compounding processes to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.

 

NaphCare Rx, is NaphCare’s in-house pharmacy dedicated solely to correctional facilities across the country. Connected by our operations management software and EHR, TechCare, NaphCare Rx pharmacists become an integrated, essential part of the clinical team, from electronic medicine orders and secure delivery to pharmacy consultation and review. NaphCare Rx also extends purchasing discounts and cost savings directly to our partners and employees.

 

Schedule:

7 days on / 7 days off (Wednesday through Tuesday)

Weekday hours: 12:00PM - 11:00PM

Weekend hours: 2:30PM - 11:00PM

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and manage non-formulary medication reviews, including prior authorization evaluations and appeals
  • Perform clinical review of medication orders for appropriateness, safety, and compliance with established guidelines
  • Provide drug information and collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes
  • Stay current with clinical guidelines, drug trends, and regulatory requirements impacting formulary and medication management
  • Perform prescription verification and dispensing activities in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies
  • Oversee medication dispensing operations, including packaging, labeling, inventory control, and delivery coordination
  • Prepare sterile compounded medications in compliance with USP <797> and <800> standards
  • Supervise and support pharmacy technicians and staff involved in sterile compounding and dispensing operations
  • Ensure accurate documentation of dispensing activities and clinical interventions
  • Respond to provider inquiries regarding medication availability, administration, and therapeutic alternatives
  • Participate in quality assurance, medication safety, and process improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain efficient workflow and timely medication distribution
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of licensure and role

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution
    • Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in Alabama
    • Alabama Board of Pharmacy Parenteral Certification, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
    • Strong clinical pharmacy knowledge and judgment
    • Ability to obtain licensure in additional states as needed
    • Demonstrated accuracy, reliability, and efficiency in a high-volume pharmacy setting
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines
    • Experience with pharmacy automation systems and electronic health records (EHR) preferred
    • Flexibility to cross-train and support additional pharmacy functions as needed

     

    Preferred Experience

    • Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY-1) preferred
