NaphCare is hiring a Substance Use Research Scientist to join our team on-site at the NaphCare Charitable Foundation in Birmingham, AL. This role will lead and support applied research and outcomes tracking in substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders, and will translate the latest evidence into clear, actionable guidance for clinicians and operational leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and document applied research on substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders; contribute to protocols, manuscripts, and presentations.
  • Partner with analysts/data scientists on measure definitions, data quality, analysis interpretation, and reporting.
  • Support development of evidence-informed program policies/procedures.
  • Develop clinician-facing guidance and training materials based on research findings and the broader evidence base.
  • Provide as-needed briefs to support clinical and operational decision-making.

Qualifications

  • PhD or MD in a relevant field
  • Experience in substance use research and co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Strong ability to communicate research clearly to non-research audiences; excellent writing skills with accurate citations.

Preferred

  • Experience in correctional health or implementation research.
  • Expertise with analytic tools (R/Python/SPSS) and publication track record.
