Position Summary:
The Vice President, Public Affairs & Strategic Media serves as a senior leader and external ambassador for LLH Healthcare, strengthening the company’s presence, reputation, and relationships within the communities it serves. This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive community affairs and governmental relations strategy while positioning LLH Healthcare and its leaders as credible voices on issues impacting healthcare, employers, employees, and the communities we serve.
The Vice President, Public Affairs & Strategic Media will serve as a thought leader and public facing representative of LLH Healthcare through community engagement, speaking opportunities, strategic partnerships, media relationships, and the development and hosting of a company podcast. The role will also support the Shaw Family Foundation and other philanthropic initiatives that align with the company’s mission and commitment to making a meaningful community impact.
This position requires a highly connected, strategic, and influential leader who can build relationships across business, government, healthcare, nonprofit, civic, and community organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
Public Affairs & Brand Leadership
- Serve as a senior ambassador and visible representative of LLH Healthcare within local, state, and national communities.
- Develop and execute a community affairs strategy that strengthens LLH Healthcare’s reputation, relationships, and visibility.
- Build and maintain relationships with business leaders, civic organizations, healthcare organizations, community leaders, elected officials, nonprofit organizations, and other key stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for LLH Healthcare to participate in meaningful community initiatives, events, forums, and partnerships.
- Represent the company at community, business, healthcare, and civic events.
- Identify opportunities to elevate LLH Healthcare’s brand through strategic community involvement and partnerships.
- Partner with Marketing and Executive Leadership to ensure external messaging is consistent with the company’s brand and strategic priorities.
Thought Leadership & Podcast
- Serve as a thought leader and external voice for LLH Healthcare on healthcare, benefits, business, workforce, community, and related issues.
- Develop and host an LLH Healthcare podcast that highlights relevant issues, leaders, and perspectives within healthcare, business, government, and the community.
- Identify compelling topics and guests that align with LLH Healthcare’s areas of interest and expertise.
- Pursue speaking engagements, panel discussions, interviews, conferences, and other opportunities that position LLH Healthcare as a respected voice in the marketplace.
- Develop relationships with media and other influencers to increase awareness of LLH Healthcare’s expertise and community impact.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop articles, commentary, presentations, social content, and other thought leadership opportunities.
Governmental Affairs
- Lead LLH Healthcare’s governmental affairs strategy at the local, state, and national levels.
- Develop and maintain relationships with elected officials, government agencies, policymakers, and other governmental stakeholders.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments that may impact LLH Healthcare, its clients, members, employees, or the broader healthcare marketplace.
- Provide executive leadership with insight and perspective on relevant governmental and public policy matters.
- Represent LLH Healthcare in appropriate governmental and policy discussions, meetings, and forums.
- Coordinate with internal leaders and external advisors on governmental affairs priorities and initiatives.
- Build strategic relationships with business associations, industry organizations, chambers of commerce, and other groups that influence public policy.
Philanthropy & Community Impact
- Serve as a strategic partner to the Shaw Family Foundation in advancing its philanthropic priorities and community impact.
- Support the Foundation’s community relationships, events, initiatives, and external engagement.
- Identify opportunities for LLH Healthcare and the Shaw Family Foundation to make a meaningful and measurable impact in the communities they serve.
- Develop relationships with nonprofit and charitable organizations aligned with the company’s and Foundation’s priorities.
- Help coordinate philanthropic initiatives and partnerships involving LLH Healthcare, the Shaw Family Foundation, and other charitable causes.
- Identify opportunities for employees and leaders to participate in community service and philanthropic activities.
Executive & Strategic Support
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO on community affairs, governmental relations, public perception, and external stakeholder relationships.
- Prepare the CEO and executive leadership for meetings, public appearances, governmental discussions, community events, and other external engagements.
- Identify emerging opportunities, risks, and issues that could affect the company’s reputation or relationships within the community.
- Partner cross functionally with Marketing, People, Operations, Sales, and other leaders to advance LLH Healthcare’s external presence and strategic priorities.
- Represent the CEO and LLH Healthcare when appropriate in external meetings and community forums.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, public relations, political science, healthcare administration, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in community affairs, governmental affairs, public relations, corporate affairs, communications, healthcare, public policy, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience building relationships with senior business leaders, elected officials, government representatives, community leaders, and nonprofit organizations.
- Strong understanding of local, state, and national governmental and public policy environments.
- Proven ability to serve as a spokesperson, thought leader, moderator, speaker, or public facing executive.
- Experience developing content, hosting a podcast, leading public forums, or creating other thought leadership platforms is preferred.
- Strong executive presence and exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to represent an organization with credibility, professionalism, authenticity, and sound judgment.
- Strong strategic thinking and relationship building skills.
- Ability to navigate complex issues and build productive relationships across diverse perspectives.
- Willingness to travel locally, regionally, and nationally as needed.
