Position Summary

EMS Fleet Mechanic II
1. Knowledge of occupational hazards and standards safety precautions necessary in the work and work site, operating principles of electric motors and engines fueled by gasoline, diesel, or gaseous fuels, methods, materials, paint , tools, and techniques used in repair, maintenance, welding, and fabrication of heavy and light equipment as well as body and fender and mechanical repair work on a variety of municipal equipment, and the use and care of tools used in work.
2. Positive interpersonal skills.
3. Prior knowledge of EMS.
4. Have effective written and verbal communication skills.
5. Enforce and comply with department rules and regulations.

 

Working Conditions:
1. Lubricating service, diagnose, repair, assemble, and maintain equipment and vehicle such as Ambulances, automobiles, and trucks.
2. Make field repairs as needed.
3. Perform general tire and repair work on equipment and vehicles.
4. Accurately update manual and computerized records related to work activities.
5. Keep abreast of changes to industry standards.
6. Perform field or shop inspections of heavy and light equipment to determine repair needs or estimate cost of repairs.
7. Propose necessary changes to systems, procedures, and equipment.
8. Communicate status of repair, maintenance of fabrication work.
9. Assist in maintaining inventory of all supplies for units and bases.
10. Respond to incidents as required.

 

Physical Requirements:
Participates in creating a safety culture by optimizing safety at all times. Required Physical Activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing,walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions. Must be able to hear and communicate effectively. Must have manual dexterity and visual acuity to trace and repair color-coded wiring systems. Must have mobility to assume awkward positions. Must have mobility to respond quickly to emergency situations. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to bend and lift on a regular basis. Heavy work requiring exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally,
and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane contact with blood and other potentially infection material. Potential risk of exposure to communicable diseases.


Qualifications

Education/formal training/licensure/certifications/experience:
High School Diploma or GED
Current valid N.C. drivers license with a good driving history.
Ten years experience in emergency vehicle repair and troubleshooting
Additional certification will be required based on assigned responsibilities.
Specialized Training in at least three major automotive systems.
EMS certification or experience preferred
Secondary Technical Education or experience in the automotive repair field preferred.
