Job Summary:

Coordination of outpatient scheduling including infusions, wound care, working with clinic teams to optimize seamless transition throughout patient process, assisting in resolving financial/insurance/authorization issues, maintaining office supply inventory, compiling of medical records, and other duties as required. The OP/Infusion LVN Navigator must be able to maintain strict confidentiality when dealing with patient and hospital information. They should be organized and meticulous with a sharp eye for detail, a professional attitude, the ability to multitask and adapt to an ever changing demanding workload. 

 

Job Relationships:

  1. Directly responsible to Perioperative Manager.
  2. Reports indirectly to the Perioperative Assistant Manager, Director of Nursing Outpatient Services and the Chief Nursing Officer.
  3. Works closely with OP/PACU RNs, clinics, clinic physicians
  4. May report indirectly to other senior leadership responsible for specific function oversight.

Occupational Hazards:

Works in the general hospital setting. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissues as well as patients in varying stages of infectious states. Travel between work sites in personal vehicle.

 

Samples of Duties:

  • Receive request from physicians’ offices and schedules the outpatient procedures according to established guidelines
  • Organizes and performs outpatient charge capture
  • Review and ensure all appropriate paperwork and orders are completed prior to scheduled outpatient visit
  • Coordinates with other hospital departments when special needs occur
  • Answer and screen phone calls in a professional and courteous manner
  • Submit and monitor orders as requested by physicians or nurses 
  • Prepare and maintain all downtime paper forms for outpatient infusion
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining office supplies for the department
  • Responsible for ordering and stocking department supplies needed for patient care
  • Oversee the creation, maintenance, and retention of accurate Infusion logs
  • Participate in Quality Assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care 
  • Act as a resource and assists other members of the department as needed
  • Generate and publishes an accurate daily call list if Perioperative Administration Clerk is unavailable
  • Review paperwork for completion prior to being sent to medical records
  • Accurately captures and records outpatient charges
  • Assists and is required to cross train to Perioperative Administration Clerk 
  • Navigating pre-surgery patients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

  • The Mission, Vision, and Values of Northern Inyo Healthcare District; 
  • NIHD policies and procedures, including Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, and Confidentiality standards;
  • Understand the function and work flow of the perioperative department and the services provided

 

Skills/Abilities to:

  • Apply critical thinking and problem solving skills to department and patient concerns including financial, authorization, and/or insurance issues
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with NIHD staff and the public;
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with NIHD staff at all levels as well as the public;
  • Develop and maintain a high degree of maturity, integrity, and good judgement.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Experience:

  1. 3 years of experience working in health care


Education: 

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  2. CA LVN License

 

Certification: 

  1. BLS upon hire
  2. Navigator Certification within a year 

 

Preferred: 

 

Experience:

  1. Prior scheduling in a health care environment strongly preferred
