Job Summary:   Under the supervision of the IT Manager, provide technical assistance, and answer questions or resolve computer problems for clients in person, via telephone, or electronically. May provide assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, and operating systems. 


Essential Job Duties:

  1. Answer user inquiries regarding computer software and hardware operation to resolve problems.
  2. Oversee the daily performance of computer systems.
  3. Read technical manuals, confer with users, or conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide technical assistance and support.
  4. Setup equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software.
  5. Develop training materials and procedures, or train users in the proper use of hardware or software.
  6. Refer major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service.
  7. Enter commands and observe system functioning to verify correct operations and detect errors.
  8. Maintain records of daily data communication transactions, problems, and remedial actions taken, or installation specifications.
  9. Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.
  10. Prepare evaluations of software or hardware and recommend improvements or upgrades.
  11. Confer with staff, users, and management to establish requirements for new systems or modifications.
  12. Modify and customize commercial programs for internal needs.
  13. Inspect equipment and read order sheets to prepare for delivery to users.
  14. Update knowledge about emerging industry or technology trends.
  15. Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen, eighteen (18) years of age or older; high school graduate or GED certified; preference given to those with a college degree in information technology or similar field.
  • Prior experience in installing, maintaining, and upgrading computer hardware and software in a government environment.
  • Experience in Windows operating systems, voice over IP, Microsoft Office Products, and computer hardware preferred.
  • Must be customer service oriented and have the ability to work with fellow employees both in person and over the telephone or while accessing the employee’s computer using remote access tools.
