The Activities Aid in a Nursing Home plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents by organizing and facilitating engaging recreational and social activities. This position focuses on promoting physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being through tailored programs that meet the diverse needs and interests of elderly residents. Under the direction of the Activities Director, the Activities Aid collaborates closely with nursing staff, therapists, and family members to ensure activities are safe, inclusive, and supportive of individual care plans. By fostering a positive and stimulating environment, the Activities Aid helps reduce feelings of isolation and encourages social interaction among residents. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to creating a warm, welcoming community atmosphere within the nursing home setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with elderly populations or in a healthcare or caregiving environment.
  • Basic understanding of elderly care and safety protocols.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with residents and team members.
  • Physical ability to assist residents and manage activity setups.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in recreational therapy or related field.
  • Experience in organizing group activities for seniors or individuals with disabilities.
  • Training in first aid and CPR.
  • Knowledge of cognitive and physical impairments common in elderly populations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and patience.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and lead a variety of recreational activities such as games, arts and crafts, music sessions, and exercise classes tailored to residents' abilities and preferences.
  • Assist residents in participating in activities, providing encouragement and support to ensure their safety and enjoyment.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities conducted and residents’ participation to monitor engagement and progress.
  • Collaborate with nursing and care staff to integrate activities with residents’ care plans and address any special needs or limitations.
  • Set up and clean activity areas, ensuring all materials and equipment are safe, organized, and readily available.
