Financial Counselor 

 

Position Summary 

Financial Counselor will act as a resource for patient billing questions and payments. Responsible for performing financial clearance functions, including but not limited to, verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, providing price estimates, taking patient payments and financial assistance.    

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 

  •  Prepares price estimates for procedures and test
  • Communicates patient liability clearly; explaining concepts such as deductibles, coinsurance and/or copayments
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits
  • Assist patients with questions/concerns about their patient liability and cost of care
  • Post patient payments
  • Responsible for balancing cash collections daily
  • Assist qualified patients with financial assistance applications
  • Process financial assistance application according to policies
  • Act as a resource for pricing and patient responsibility
  • Handles patient walk-in

Position Qualifications

Education

- Associates degree in related field preferred

- Financial counselor certification 

Experience

-  2 years’ experience in healthcare customer service 

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

 

- Strong Customer Service skills 

- Knowledge of Insurance companies and patient liability (deductibles, coinsurance, copayments) 

- Proficient in Microsoft Office products especially Excel

- Expertise in accounts receivable management and hospital billing 

- In-depth understanding of HIPAA regulations and proven ability to ensure confidentiality with respect to sensitive information

- Strong interpersonal abilities, including exceptional written and verbal communication skills 

- Demonstrated analytical skills necessary to provide timely resolution of day-to-day issues

- Highly dependable in both production and attendance

- Exceptional organization and time management skills


Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm
