GENERAL SUMMARY
Responds to fire and medical emergencies within the Township. Trains and maintains firefighting, medical, and other skills. Participates in community events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Responds to medical emergencies. Assesses, treats, stabilizes, and transports patients
Responds to fire suppression emergencies.
Responds to non-emergent calls, such as performing smoke/carbon monoxide/Knox Box installation, paramedicine runs, or assisting physically disabled citizens.
Performs station duties, cleans and maintains all equipment and groups.
Responds to a variety of other call types, such as hazardous material incidents, technical rescues, downed wires, water rescues, and vehicle extrication.
Continues own training, takes continuing education classes, and adopts the usage of new techniques and technologies.
Performs community outreach.
Writes reports and maintains records.
Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Associate's Degree or 2 Years of College from an accredited college with major course work in Fire Science or related field
- No experience.
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Licenses or Certifications
Michigan Firefighter I and II certification, State of Michigan Paramedic license, Hazmat Operations Level certification, Hazardous Material Technician, ALCS, PALS, Candidate Physical Agility Test, National Incident Management System 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications, Pump Apparatus Operator certification, Emergency Vehicle Driving certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Michigan , Confined Space Operations, , Confined Space Awareness, Trench Rescue Awareness, Collapse Rescue Awareness, Rope Rescue.

Knowledge of:
- Principles, practices, and methods of modern firefighting
- Laws, rules, and regulations relating to fire control, care of the sick and injured, and hazardous material response and management (MiOSHA laws, NFPA standards)
- Relevant Bloomfield Township policies and procedures
Skill in:
- Use of fire suppression apparatus, tools, and equipment
- Use of relevant computer software as necessary
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Meet schedules and deadlines of the work
- Direct and apply technical knowledge in both training and high-stress situations
- Manage emergency incidents using the National Incident Management System
- Manage time effectively and multitask
