About the role
At Illinois Farm Bureau, we pride ourselves on offering a competitive and enriching internship program. The Consumer Engagement Intern is part of the Illinois Center for Agricultural Engagement, which focuses on external engagement and educational outreach to improve understanding of Illinois agriculture. The purpose of consumer engagement at IFB is to build awareness and perception of Illinois agriculture and farming practices among adult non-farming audiences. We support the local engagement efforts of County Farm Bureaus and Collegiate Farm Bureaus and offer information and training to Farm Bureau members interested in engaging consumer audiences. Beyond project work, the intern will learn about future career opportunities, network within the organization, and so much more! - Research and develop content for consumer-facing materials and resources to aid in consumer conversations on agricultural topics
- Brainstorm and develop framework for consumer engagement events for use by County Farm Bureaus and Collegiate Farm Bureau chapters
- Attend various consumer engagement events throughout Illinois
- Assist with Illinois Farm Families projects as needed
- Additional support of Illinois Center for Agricultural Engagement programs as needed
Application Timeline:
We know waiting can be difficult, so we want to set expectations upfront. Our internship recruiting process takes place over several months. Applications open in mid-September and are reviewed as they are received. HR interviews are expected to begin in mid-October, followed by interviews with hiring leaders. Depending on the role and applicant volume, hiring decisions and offers may be made anytime from October through January. Do you have what we're looking for?
- Pursuing a degree in agricultural communications, or a related field.
- Must be able to work full-time hours from late May 2027 to early August 2027. The internship may be extended part-time through fall 2027 and spring 2028.
- Graduation date of August 2027 or beyond.
- Proficiency in programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Canva preferred.
- Familiar with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc. preferred.
- Knowledge of AP style preferred.
- Understanding of Illinois agriculture and modern farming practices.
- Ability to be productive, with high degree of accuracy/attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be organized, self-motivated, and proactive.
